The Edward St Cottage is a heritage listed bluestone dwelling in the city of Moreland and was built in the 1860’s by brothers Henry and John Jenkin. The original cottage lays in the front yard of an award winning home which was part of a larger construction project completed in 2012.
Stokes Rousseau was engaged by the owner (project managed by architect Sean Godsell) to complete renovations to the cottage. The interior of the cottage underwent a complete transformation, existing load bearing walls were removed and replaced with large steel beams to carry roof loads resulting in one large open space. A new ‘services hub’ was built that houses a bathroom, kitchenette, study nook complete with a loft style double bed. 3 large sliding doors appear from nowhere to divide the room into two workspaces that open out onto a beautiful courtyard. Complete with a new slate roof, new external doors and windows the cottage is set to withstand the next 150 years in true style.
