The terraces of 856 and 858 Swanston Street, Carlton, together form a childcare centre managed by the University of Melbourne.
The scope of work for the project predominantly involved the demolition of a double storey brick wall, structural propping and underpinning inadequate bluestone foundations. Following the 1.8m underpin, the brick wall was re-built using salvaged hand pressed bricks. Brickwork was re-pointed with lime based mortar and an internal refurbishment was completed, comprising of a new kitchen, carpet throughout, new plaster and painted walls.
All works were completed within a functioning childcare facility with limited disruption to staff and services.
